Phase I - Understanding the Bible: What is the Bible? ...It is the living, enduring, infallible, and inerrant Word of God. It is the word of truth, written by men who were under the influence and direction of the Holy Spirit, ever revealing the redemptive plan of God, the works of Christ, the reward of the faithful, and the penalty of sin...
Phase II - Analyzing the Bible: The Bible, also referred to as the Book, contains 66 individual books, authored by 40 different writers, covering a period of approximately 1600 years...Each book is inseparably linked to the other, conveying many messages centered around one profound truth. Therefore, to comprehend the truth of the Bible, an individual must first gain an understanding of the principal message found within each book...
Phase III - Exploring Biblical Doctrines:
Doctrine of God. In reading the Bible, it is apparent that holy men of God wrote the inspired Word under the presupposition that God was both real and divinely communicating with them. Accordingly, they did not write to prove His existence but to make known His actions, His nature, and His purpose. Moreover, this writer takes the position that all of humanity, on some level of consciousness, possesses the innate awareness of the existence of a Supreme Being that they are drawn to and must one day reckon with. Whether they acknowledge Him as God or ascribe His handy-work to the Big Bang or some other theory, the fact remains that His presence is seen and felt in all that man sees and knows.
Doctrine of Grace. John writes, And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1:14). In the OT, Christ was viewed in shadows and glimpses, but within the New, He is fully disclosed for all to see. Christ in the NT is grace personified. To look upon Him is to see grace in motion. Thus, by a virgin, Grace was born into a world of sin; yet, He was without sin. For some 33 years, Grace walked in the midst of sinful men; yet, He remained sinless. In the garden, Grace wrestled with the penalty of sin; yet, He uttered thy will be done. In the common hall, Grace received the debasement and stripes of sin; yet, He spoke not a word. At Calvary, Grace felt the full weight and pain of sin; yet, He completed the task, and declared, It is finished. In the tomb, Grace experienced the emptiness and hopelessness of sin; yet, on the third day, He rose victoriously with all power in His hand. Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.
